New Years Walk

2nd January 2011

Seriously struggling to believe that it was the beginning of 2011 (where did 2010 go??!!!); the Smiths, Critchley’s, West’s, Jones’, Wayne and family, the Ind’s and Chris Bates set off from a car park heading along the canal. Summer and Ellie also joined us. It was cold, but dry and quite refreshing. It was interesting to see how the process of restoring the canal was happening…a dredger and lots of locks catching peoples’ attention!!
Mud prevailed for much of the walk, but with stout walking boots/shoes and wellies, no-one even noticed!!! Fields and paved villages [please list!!] were crossed and several pubs as well I noticed….yes pubs were PASSED!!!!
Toni, the Critchley’s and Chris ended up taking a slight detour….we missed where the main party went at a bridge and carried on ahead….a quick phone call to check Toni’s instincts were correct and we were soon back on track – all be it a way behind….Wills’ little legs did well, but didn’t quite make all the way – Phil’s shoulders took a bit of a battering!!
Wayne and family left us part way round as Summer is only allowed to walk so far at present – seems she enjoyed it though!
Once we had completed the 5 mile circular walk back to the car park, we headed back to the Smiths, for a wonderful sausage casserole or chilli and jacket potato. Cheese boards, rice pudding, trifle and more followed. We were joined by Irene, the Harber-Swains, the Perrys, Geoff and Caroline and a few more I believe – names escape me – must be something to do with age!!!!
A fantastic time was had by all – great walk, great company, great food and drink….what more could we ask!!!!
A huge thank you to the Smiths’ for organising.
